Capt G.W.M. Lees wearing the distinctive "Spur bone" Motto in his service
cap. Geoffrey William Martin Lees was born in 1891, the son of a wealthy
Cheshire cotton miller. He was educated at Winchester College, Oxford and
served in the 17th Lancers in France during World War One. He purchased
Falcutt Hall in 1921 and moved there with his new wife Ellen Penn. Captain
Lees died in 1968.
