Challenger2 Main Battle Tank

Soldiers of B (LDY) Squadron, The Royal Yeomanry, train as Crewman reserves for the Challenger 2 MBT  and support the regular army in active roles in Iraq, with several from the squadron seeing active service since the conflict began.

Recce Land-rover

Not long after losing the Fox ARV in late1992 the whole regiment started receiving the vehicles and within a year or so accustomed itself to its new role.

FV-721 Fox light Armoured Car

In 1992 and the LDY's return to the RAC role as B (LDY) Sqn the Royal Yeomanry, they briefly saw service in the light armoured reconnaissance role again in the Fox ARV. But this was a brief encounter of 6 months as the struggle through "Options for change" saw the Queens Own Yeomanry win the armoured role and saw the Royal Yeomanry reduced to the recce' land rover for its foreseeable future. This was, I assure you, very disappointing for the new B (LDY)Squadron as we were armoured again after a long absence.... only to have it taken from us as soon as we had it!

On the left is "Songster" one of the most loved mounts in the LY ranks, his grave is marked by the LY at West Beacon Farm near Loughborough. Rufford Abbey was the LYPAO mounted staging post prior to WW1 and the names of the LY mounts can still be seen on the stables today. Songster saw service in the first World War and was one of the few that came back.
